General Motors ideas to invest $ 162 million at its Lansing Grand River site in Michigan to build a stamping plant and produce 65 jobs, the Lansing State Journal reported nowadays.

GM would not verify the investment, and would say only that the organization was looking into future investment in Lansing.

“[GM] is creating a enterprise situation for a potential long term investment at the facility and it would fund improvements to strengthen our capacity right here,” GM spokeswoman Erin Davis informed Automotive Information.

In accordance to the newspaper, GM ideas to construct a 225,000-square-foot stamping operation close to the present Lansing Grand River assembly plant, which can make the Cadillac ATS and 3 variants of the CTS — sedan, coupe and wagon. Manufacturing of the redesigned Camaro will be shifted to Lansing from Oshawa, Ontario, in 2015.

The automaker also is constructing a $ 44.5 million logistics creating that will be connected to the Lansing assembly plant when completed and will add 200 jobs.

The Lansing Grand River plant employs 1,541 hourly and salaried workers.
