Sergio Pérez earned Force India’s 1st podium in Formula 1 since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix when he took a fantastic third spot in Bahrain.

The Mexican had to conquer powerful difficulties from teammate Nico Hulkenberg and the 2 Williams drivers, and he was chased across the line by Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull.

The result was a welcome reward for Pérez after his troubled season at McLaren.

“It’s a very special podium for myself,” stated Pérez. “I had a genuinely challenging time, my time in McLaren in which I in no way have a likelihood to battle for a podium all yr. Truly, coming into Force India and currently being in a position to, only in my third race, to be able to qualify 4th and then straight away being capable to fight for the podium was a excellent feeling. An incredible podium.”

Pérez’s job was produced far more challenging after the safety vehicle allowed the pack to near up.

“The safety auto created factors truly difficult for me. It was looking quite comfortable ahead of the safety car came in and when it came it was actually tough also to switch the Prime tire on. It was very challenging as we had a security vehicle for a lengthy time period. So I arrived into turn one particular following the restart with my teammate. I just couldn’t stop the automobile, locked the front wheels. I attempted my ideal to preserve the position and we managed and then we had the Red Bull coming genuinely rapid at the finish. Thankfully, we managed to hold the podium.

“It was a genuinely fulfilling race, a bit like karting days when you’re fighting in and out. But when you are sliding all the time and you have degradation, it was not so satisfying towards the finish of the race. But even now, when you have crossed the finish line, it was a wonderful feeling for me.”
