CEO Interview Hyundai

“For certain, these 2 organizations have a natural attraction to every other.” –John Krafcik

Truthfully, this is actually hard to even think about, but what if the Volkswagen Group merged with Fiat Chrysler Vehicles? Aside from currently being effortlessly the largest automaker on the planet, it’;d bring the following tends to make under one roof: Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Industrial Vehicles, Fiat, Fiat Expert Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Jeep, Maserati and Ram. Item overlap aside, this arrangement would, in the estimation of former Hyundai Motor America boss and current TrueCar President John Krafcik, be “very lucrative.”

“This is an completely brilliant blend,” Krafcik informed Bloomberg at an event in Detroit this week. “For sure, these 2 firms have a natural attraction to every single other.”

Krafcik’;s statements hinge on the reality that, at least in the US, FCA has a booming SUV and pickup organization, courtesy of Jeep and Ram, while the Volkswagen Group’;s Audi and Porsche tie down the premium business which is complemented by a powerful mainstream lineup.

Now, the VW/FCA tieup has been periodically rumored for some time, and the 2 manufacturers have gone as far as denying any official talks. Still, Krafcik, who named his thoughts an “academic exercise,” did include that a merger is “just this kind of a natural chance.”

“It can make so much sense,” Krafcik mentioned. “You get a rather exciting hypothetical business that covers all individuals bases fairly effectively.”

Even though Krafcik tends to make excellent factors, there’;s genuine potential for critical product overlap. How do you stratify 17 diverse manufacturers? Lamborghini and Porsche currently have a contentious connection inside of the Volkswagen empire, what would take place when notoriously independent Ferrari is additional to the mix? And Maserati?

Let’;s have our personal academic exercising, Autoblog readers. Of the 17 brand names at present constructed by FCA and VAG, which would you retain in a merged organization? For the record, your author would retain VW (mainstream), Audi (premium), Porsche (sports activities automobiles), Bentley (luxury), Bugatti (hypercar), Alfa Romeo (premium overall performance), Ferrari (exotic efficiency), Jeep (SUV/CUV), Ram (trucks) and Fiat Expert (commercial automobiles). Create your very own lineup, or just tell me why I’;m incorrect in Feedback.

Ferrari will be retained by EXOR, so I would prefer Lamborghini as exotic efficiency brand in the new group they’re going to fund.
