When Mercedes crew boss Paddy Lowe came on the radio and advised teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to “bring the autos property” late in the Formula A single Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, he was not relaying crew orders to Rosberg let Hamilton consider the win.

At least that is Rosberg’;s story, and he is sticking to it.

“I was properly conscious that the whole world was thinking ‘huh, right here we go, Silver Arrows staff orders, ultimately they’;re there,’; ” Rosberg said. “That was clear to me but it wasn’;t that at all, it was just ‘guys, make sure that you get these automobiles to the finish. Will not break them, don’;t crash.’; The message was clear anyway, not genuinely required to give this kind of a message due to the fact we know that, we drive really challenging, but in the finish with the required respect but we’;re cost-free to race all the way.

“In the finish, I just acquired a bit more overheating on the tires in the final 3 laps due to the fact I was pushing so challenging in the slipstream, you know, with much less grip, sliding a lot and so the tires just overheated in the last 3 laps and I couldn’;t get near ample any much more. And also with the hybrid, at occasions you have a lot more then you have much less. It truly is coming and going and it truly is tough to be there in the correct moment when you do have it. It’;s not that straightforward, so there was then a time period when I did not have adequate increase energy, either.”

Despite the benefit of softer tires in excess of the final 10 laps, Rosberg was unable to get the win.

“I will not truly have considerably more to say, but thankfully my tires didn’;t go off in those last 2 or 3 laps,” Hamilton said. “So he seemed to drop a small much more than me, so just capable to keep ahead.”
