LAT PHOTOGRAPHIC – Toto Wolff has been unafraid to speak his mind when it comes to Mercedes’; chances at winning the F1 title in 2014.
Mercedes chief Toto Wolff admits that he would regard it as a failure if the team does not win the 2014 Formula One particular championship — even though he insists that the team’s advantage is not as massive as outsiders might believe.
“I really don’;t see it as a large benefit, to be truthful,” he explained. “You can see if you have a DNF [did not finish], you lose points. McLaren is top the constructors’. So we can not pause in the total point. Yes, we have a minor bit of a margin at the minute, and losing that margin now is something that I would consider as a failure.”
Wolff says that the crew has to keep on pushing and not rest on its laurels.
“The good point is that we are really integrated. It is not that you function on reliability and not on the other elements. The complete factor is so a lot integrated, and the guys perform with every other so well that, yes, we have to carry on to perform on dependability but equally drive performance. You require to include downforce to the vehicle. You require to make all the systems work with each other. You need to have to improve on cooling. You require to boost the entire package deal of the vehicle.
“You have to look on yourself and increase everything and improve the organization and boost the car. Whether or not you are ahead or behind, it doesn’t alter the method.”
He acknowledged that the subsequent race is a huge challenge: “I guess that all the teams are fighting with cooling at the second. We tend to locate out each test or race weekend that we are going into that it’s more tough than anticipated, so I guess Malaysia will be fairly a huge challenge to handle heat.”
