IndyCar and NASCAR Series drivers share National Guard Sponsorship, considering swapping rides

LAT PHOTOGRAPHIC – Dale Earnhardt Jr. seems interested in trading in his Chevrolet SS for am Indy auto — at least for one day.
IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal explained he expects a race car swap with Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take place due to the fact it’;s terrific publicity for the National Guard, which sponsors both drivers and their teams.
“At the end of the day, it’;s really great for the Guard,” Rahal told Autoweek on Monday. “It absolutely gives them a heck of a whole lot of media consideration.”
The concerns now center on approval from Hendrick Motorsports crew owner Rick Hendrick, who could not be reached for comment, and settling on a track which is protected sufficient for such an encounter.
Rahal recommended they try out Indianapolis Motor Speedway’;s revamped street course, but Earnhardt indicated in their Sunday night Twitter exchange that he is much more interested in an oval track. A number of track presidents have publicly presented their facilities. The 2 drivers even talked about Daytona and Talladega.
Rahal hopes they settle on Indy, although he acknowledges that the 2.5-mile oval almost certainly would be harder for him than Earnhardt. But, that is the very best spot for the Daytona 500 winner to knowledge an Indy car, he stated.
“The velocity at Indy is going to feel quick to him, and that’;s entertaining,” Rahal stated. “If we go to a good deal of other areas and give him a great deal of downforce (for security) and allow ‘er rip, it is not going to be the exact same impact.
“But it is got to be risk-free.”
