LAT PHOTOGRAPHIC – Christian Horner of Red Bull Racing is convinced that Red Bull is in the proper when it comes to the fuel-use concern from Australia.
The FIA’;s Formula One particular race director Charlie Whiting is confident that the rules relating to the measurement of fuel flow are clear, despite Red Bull’;s assertion to the contrary.
In Australia, Daniel Ricciardo was found guilty of breaching Post 5.1.4 of the 2014 Technical Regulations, which says, merely, “Fuel mass movement need to not exceed 100 kg/h.”
It does not say how that figure is to be measured, and Red Bull sees that as a key element of its situation. The group also says that technical directives issued by Whiting, and which refer to the sensors, have no regulatory worth.
Nevertheless, later in the Technical Regulations there is a clear reference to the FIA sensor. Report 5.10.3 reads, “Homologated sensors need to be fitted which right measure the strain, the temperature and the flow of the fuel provided to the injectors, these signals have to be supplied to the FIA information logger.”
The following 5.10.4 adds, “Only one homologated FIA fuel flow sensor could be fitted to the car which should be positioned wholly inside the fuel tank.”
Each rules have been referenced by the Australian Grand Prix stewards in their judgment on Ricciardo.
“Article 5.10 helps make it really clear, in my view, that the only way that the fuel movement will be measured is with the homologated sensor,” Whiting explained. “As you most likely know, Gill is the only sensor that is homologated by the FIA. So, for me, it’;s completely clear.”
Red Bull principal Christian Horner said earlier that he was unaware of a certain sensor rule.
“There isn’;t [one],” Horner mentioned. “Which rule is that? There is absolutely nothing that tends to make reference to the FIA sensor. It’;s purely technical directives. There a regulation 72.4 that I consider you are referring to, that is a sensor is anyway invalid. It’;s the team’;s responsibility to run inside the rules.”
For the record, 8.2.4 reads: “If sensor faults or mistakes are detected by the driver or by the onboard software program, backup sensors might be utilized and different settings might be manually or instantly picked. Nonetheless, any backup sensor or new setting picked in this way need to not improve the efficiency of the vehicle. Any driver default turned on during the start off lockout period may possibly not be turned off prior to the finish of that time period.”
